The Medicare app just introduced by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is an excellent way to know what’s covered. No reason to call their toll-free number and have to wait a loooooong time to get a customer rep to talk to you.
Medicare App: How It Works
Here is how it works:
If you’re not sure whether Original Medicare will pay for a particular test or medical service, the Medicare App will tell you. It’s easy to load on to your i-phone or any other device. No need to guess — and you can immediately find out if your doctor’s prescription is covered.
The new app can easily be loaded to your i-phone or any other device. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) calls their new app — “What’s Covered”.
It is available in GooglePlay and the AppleApp Store. You can look for a particular service or test by typing a description into the search bar.
The app allows you to browse all services via an alphabetized list of everything from acupuncture to yearly wellness visits. It also gives you a list of preventative services that Medicare pays for. There is also a help feature which lets you call the Medicare hotline (800-Medicare; 800-633-4227). If you’re more comfortable searching online, then go to the full Medicare.gov website.
The app is part of the CMS eMedicare initiative, which focuses on modernizing Medicare by providing up to the minute information on all of their programs. This empowers you to get the best value from your Medicare coverage.
CMS officials say questions about what Medicare covers accounts for about 15 million page views on the agency’s website each year. In addition, the Medicare hotline gets more than three million coverage-related calls every year.
